Tyr and Fenrir

Tyr the Norse protector of laws and the god of close hand to hand combat was the only god trusted by the great wolf Fenrir. When Fenrir was to be bound, to prevent Ragnarok, Tyr placed his hand into Fenrir’s mouth as a sign of trust. When Fenrir realized he was tied and could not break the bindings, he bit off Tyr’s arm.
